January has come to an end, and with it ends New Year’s Resolutions all over the globe. Equipment is opening up at the gym, weight loss commercials are slowing down, and it is time to get back to enjoying food and wine again. Here is a quick pairing that fits well with a healthy lifestyle in the spirit of moderation and live a little.
The Wine: Nieto Senetiner has released a limited distribution “blend collection” to illustrate their estate vineyards in Argentina’s first wine growing area, Lujan de Cuyo. Traditionally Nieto Senetiner is known for their single vineyard; however, winemaker Santiago Mayorga wanted to expand beyond the importance of Malbec to showcase their estate Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot as well.
2014 Nieto Senetiner Blend Collection Mendoza Argentina ($14.99): 60% Malbec, 40% Cabernet Franc; clear medium ruby; clean medium+ aromas of black and red berries, smoke, dark chocolate, tobacco, espresso, green herbal notes, sweet baking spices, black pepper, and a hint of vanilla; medium acidity with medium+ tannins, body, and finish; smooth on the palate, juicy stewed black berries with round earth notes that linger on the palate in a mouth-coating finish.
The Food: Both Malbec and Cabernet Franc pair well with red meat: beef, lamb, boar, and buffalo. Furthermore, Argentinians love beef! I knew I wanted to pair this wine with beef, but was in a major time crunch and could not decide how to prepare the beef.
My Choice: One of my favorite foods is burgers. I enjoy a juicy burger with a multitude of toppings. For this food and wine pairing my time was limited because I over-committed myself in January. It had been quite a while since I had a burger, and with January now over the time was now! Furthermore, not everyone cooks and its important IMO to sometimes pair wines with take out! Therefore, this pairing features a Bacon and Blue Cheese Burger that I did not make!
The Results: Delicious! The burger was juicy and flavorful. The wine paired seamlessly. The cleanup was 60 seconds! Sometimes the best meals are the ones we don’t cook! If you are looking for a delicious weeknight wine to pair with your favorite burger the 2014 Nieto Senetiner blend is a great choice.
My Song Selection: This wine and burger combination will have you groovin for sure!
*Disclaimer: This wine was a media sample; all thoughts and opinions were my own.
Get your own bottle of 2014 Nieto Senetiner Blend Collection wine and let me know what song you pair it with. Cheers!

I had my first burger of 2017 last night! And my hubby made it too, a mushroom/cheddar/onion burger. I enjoyed a glass of white. I sure love it when the hubby grills, lol. 🙂
