New world style Sauvignon Blanc can be like a popular high school girl - energetic, naive, and trying too hard to be liked. I seek to avoid these Sauvignon Blanc, opting instead for a subdued, mineral driven, almost austere old world style such as Sancerre or Bordeaux Blanc. That’s why I get so excited when I find a new world made, old world style Sauvignon Blanc. @smithstorywines does it for me! They call it their “ode to Sancerre,” I call it dazzling! 2018 offered them a great vintage with more fruit sources to make more Sauvignon Blanc. It delivers restrained notes of citrus, blossom, and crushed stone. On the palate dazzling acidity and mouthwatering salinity deliver a long, focused finish. My challenge is getting a refill before my husband finishes the bottle!
