As the president of Amarone Families, Marillisa Allegrini is a top Ambassador for Valpolicella. She is known as “The Lady of Amarone.” Valpolicella stole my heart the first time I visited in 2016. I hope some day soon to return. In the meantime, I’ll have to reminisce with this 2014 Allegrini Palazzo Della Torre IGT. Crafted from Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella , and a kiss of Sangiovese, I like to call it a ‘Super Valpolicella.’ Most importantly, I call it delicious! A small amount of the Corvinone is dried on racks for months, a process called appassimento, then pressed and added to the vinified wine for a second fermentation. This process adds a depth of concentration and texture to this rich red wine.
