Why would you drink an unappreciated grape from an unfashionable wine region? Read my latest The Daily Meal contribution to find out…

I read recently that Alsace is an unfashionable wine region. I certainly do not agree. Alsace is one of the highest regarded white wine regions in the world. It is also my understanding that many people simply do not “get” Gewürztraminer. I understand this a bit more; however, I feel with knowledge comes understanding and hopefully embracing this wonderfully aromatic grape.

Please take a moment to learn more about Alsace and Gewürztraminer by reading my latest in The Daily Meal. I hope you will be convinced.

  1. Gwurtztraminer isn’t my favorite wine in the main.Traditionally it is a little sweet and perfumy for my palate. However, I have had many lovely wines from Alsace that I have thoroughly enjoyed.

    • It’s not for everyone but comes in so many styles from dry to sweet that it pairs with so many Foods. And if it’s from Alsace you know it’s good.

  2. I haven’t tried Gewurztraminer from Alsace, but I’m in love with their Rieslings. Although, I’ll admit I’ve had a hard time enjoying Gewurz from anywhere! 🙂 I can appreciate it, but the floral tends to be so strong at times for me. But I’ll keep trying! I’ll have to give these from Alsace a try to see the difference.

  3. Gewurztraminer is one of my favorite food pairing wines. I especially love it with sushi and vegan dishes. Did you know that Texas also grows it? Texas Gewurztraminer wines are excellent. Inspired by beautiful Alsace, we grow our Messina Hof Gewurztraminer grapes in Texas High Plains vineyards. The elevation is ~3400 feet.
